Selby has been photographing his surroundings since his parents gave him a Kodak box camera when he was 8. He bought his first SLR at 19 and over the years stretched to darkroom work, astrophotography and medium format.
In 2004 he acquired his first digital camera and a pigment ink jet printer and finally was able to get the environment that gave him immediate feedback and control over the image from inception to the final print. Over the years since he has continually refined his skill in processing, printing and display of his images.
He believes that the only way to see what the photographer intended is to see the print, to be able to hold it in your hand, to be as near or far from it as you like. As images are printed larger, subtleties in depth and detail appear that completely change the viewer’s experience.
Selby joined us for the Nightscapes exhibit and is exhibiting once again in f8's Retrospective in Sept 2016.
